Pawlenty-O'-Nuttin

Nothing in Tim Pawlenty's political record suggests he's Presidential timber.

As 39th Governor of Minnesota, 2012 Presidential hopeful Tim Pawlenty left office with Minnesota down in every measurable category except one: Vetoes.

*Pawlenty had more vetoes than any of the 38 previous Minnesota governors.

Governor from 2003 to 2011, Pawlenty dragged his no-tax pledge around with him like a ball and chain for two terms.

His inability to reach outside the ideological corner he painted himself into, is largely to blame for a 2010 Budget Deficit Among Top 10 Largest In Nation.

Buy Ya Some Snake Oil?

Pawlenty, who is from South St. Paul, morphs into a good ol' boy when it suits him. Can you say politically expedient? Get an 'earwaggin of Pawlenty's South St. Paul drawl in this March campaign speech:

.

Dude is phonier than a ground-rule double in the Metrodome.  There might be exciting things about Tim Pawlenty, but scratching my head, none come to mind.

Incapable of Problem-Solving

Not a broad or a deep thinker, Pawlenty's record suggests a vindictive, politically ambitious man, whose stubbornly ideological approach rendered him incapable of problem-solving.

You needn't bother looking up the the word intransigent... simply Google the phrase "Tim Pawlenty Vetoes".

  2. Hi Lance,
Tim Pawlenty might be likable on a personal level, but his inability to improve Minnesota on ANY front over two 4-year terms was maddening. And that such an abysmal record is somehow a spring-board to run for president is baffling.

Suffice to say I prefer pragmatic, problem-solvers in State government, rather than ineffectual, stultifying ideologues.

    Cheers,
    Bob

Why did the people of MN elect him twice?

    ReplyDelete
  4. MN elected Pawlenty twice because his public demeanor is that of a moderate politician.

Most Minnesotans don’t pay much attention to the Governor, or the State Legislature for that matter, unless their public actions involve an issue that gets in their grill.

An examination of Pawlenty’s veto record coupled with his consistent and prolonged inability to work with (e.g., compromise) the State legislature is NOT centrist or moderate, rather stubbornly dogmatic.

Minnesotans were simply asleep at the switch. Remember that Pawlenty’s first term was won by a narrow margin and aided by an independent candidate from the same party as his DFL opposition. Also his second term was won by a slim margin (46.7% to challenger’s 45.7%).

He was skillfully packaged as a moderate, but governed as ideologue.

That Pawlenty’s record of zero-accomplished for MN in 8 years somehow qualifies him for Presidential candidacy is baffling.

So, the majority of Minnesotans are dolts?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Dear Anonymous,
Dolts? Nah. Occasionally Minnesotans vote against their best interests. Most people, when they truly understand what's at stake, favor pragmatism and progress over third-world social and physical infrastructure.
    Thanks.

Electing Pawlenty, Bachman, and Jesse V. and they are not dolts? Does not compute.

  8. Anonymous,
I think I'm the dolt is this equation. Lance?
